We are excited to introduce you to Kelley Lee, the author of today’s blog post and the first place winner in the 2018 AdvoCare ONE/80® Transformation Competition.*

It’s the start that stops most people. Whether that be beginning a new job, writing that first paragraph in an English paper, or a new weight-loss plan, the first step is often our most difficult one to make. Never underestimate the power of that first step.   Tweet This!

I used to believe that my best days were behind me, that I would never be as in shape as I once was, that I would never wear those jeans again, never be that size again.  Tweet This! I thought this was my new normal as a middle-aged woman. But, then I had the courage to take a first step. I began my ONE/80 Transformation at the beginning of January and haven’t stopped.

What attracted me to this program was that it wasn’t a “quick fix” but a lifestyle change.   Tweet This! That was precisely what my family and I needed.  As moms, we are often the emotional barometers in our homes.   Tweet This! Remember that old adage, “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”? Maybe there’s some truth to that. We need to take care of ourselves so we can lead our families to healthier, happier lives.   Tweet This! I noticed that when I changed my eating habits, my family’s changed as well. When I began exercising, I actually felt more energized. I’ve never regretted a work out completed, but I have felt plenty of guilt over one not done.   Tweet This!

I would have the best of intentions of exercising, but then something would come up and that work out just didn’t happen. I decided I could make excuses or make it happen.   Tweet This! I wanted the latter, so I began setting my alarm for 4:30 a.m. so that I could exercise before the daily demands set in. That first step out of bed is that most difficult one. I have a quote on my running board that says, “Dead last is better than didn’t finish and didn’t finish is better than didn’t start.”   Tweet This! Instead of pressing snooze, just roll on out of bed. Stumble to the kitchen, drink some Spark®, and get that work out done.

It’s okay when we don’t see immediate results. Our weight didn’t go on overnight, so we can’t expect it to come off instantly. Remember, it’s a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. I weigh and measure weekly, and take front, back, and side pictures monthly so that I can see my progress. Comparison is the thief of joy, so I don’t compare my results to those of others. My race, my pace. I’ve got to run (or walk) the mile I’m in.   Tweet This! I’m not impressed that I finished my challenge; I’m rejoicing that I had the courage to begin.*
